Certificates:

• Humber College – Located in southern Ontario. Offers an online Technical Writing Certificate (4 core courses and 2 electives). Total program cost is about $1900 – $2400, depending on electives chosen.
• Online-Learning.com – Located in Ottawa. Offers an online Information Design program (5 core courses and 1 elective) as well as individual writing-related courses. Has monthly intake for most courses. Mentored courses are accredited by Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business. 10% discount offered to STC members. Total program cost is about $1600 – $1800 (CAD, for Canadian students), depending on elective choice.
• Vancouver Island University – Formerly Malaspina University-College. Offers an online Technical Communications Certificate program (5 core courses and 3 electives). Courses offered several times a year. 10% discount offered to STC members. Total program cost is about – $2700 – $3000 (CAD, for Canadian students), depending on electives.

Individual Courses:

• Great User Docs – Offers a Web-based “Great User Documents” course. Used to cost $650 US but is now offered as a free download. Includes approproximately seven hours of MP3 audio files. From Igetitnow! Training, Inc.
• Writers Digest Online Workshops – Offers an eight-week online workshop (four two-week sessions) in the Essentials of Technical Writing. I haven’t taken it but I imagine you get what you pay for — you’re never going to learn all you need to about technical writing in a single eight-week course, but it may be a good introduction. They also offer a number of other fiction and non-fiction writing workshops. Costs $199 US.
